Fly-fishing from raft is an unforgettable experience. Long, float trip, access to all the productive water, a better view of the fish, and of course, the pure enjoyment of boating.

Trips are available from March through October. Float trips are optimal for guests who already have some basic fly-fishing skills- total beginners may do better by beginning with a walk and wade trip.

Half – Day Float Trips

This is an excellent trip for people who want to try float-fishing. We run this trip through Bighorn Sheep Canyon downstream.

Full Day Float Trip

Fish where the shore-based anglers can only dream about as we float through areas with difficult access or private property. The full-day trip includes time to stop and wade, enjoy a riverside lunch, and experience the full range of feeding patterns during the day. Trips are run in Bighorn Sheep Canyon.

Summer Half-day Evening Float

This is a great way to experience late-day fishing action while avoiding recreational rafting and other daytime crowds on and around the river during the height of the summer season.

Guided Walk-Wade Trips

River’s Edge has some of the most experienced fly-fishing guides on the Arkansas River and private access miles of the river’s best water. Improve your technique and presentation, learn tactics for wild brown trout, or simple enjoy the serenity and solitude of fishing our waters.

Our trips are from Canon City or Cotopaxi with miles of private water from April-October.

Half-Day Walk-Wade Trip
Half-day trips are an excellent way for a novice to learn the basics and get a real taste of fly-fishing. Our guides enjoy introducing beginners to the sport and we have all necessary equipment available for rent at both shops. More experienced anglers will enjoy the access to our private water while learning techniques for fishing the Arkansas.

Full-Day Walk-Wade Trip
Full-day trips are the best start a fly-fishing novice can get! For beginners, the morning instruction focuses on rigging your equipment and knot tying, fly-casting and fishing techniques, and learning to read the water. After lunch (included), the afternoon is spent fishing our private water with your guide. More experienced anglers will enjoy the full day of fishing this multifaceted water while gaining plenty of new insight into technique from our guides.

Never Fly Fish Before Wade Package
Do you want to try fly fishing without worrying about all the equipment and arrangements? This popular package trip includes everything you need to get a taste of this exciting sport. We provide all the equipment and flies. You will be matched up with one of our excellent teaching guides for your first fly fishing adventure.

Wade-Float Packages

Two-Day Combination
There is simply no better way to experience all the Arkansas River has to offer than through one of our combination trips. Enjoy an afternoon of guided wade fishing and a full-day float trip the following day. Day One is an intensive instructional situation that will give you a great foundation for all of the water and fish you will encounter on Day Two. We are glad to help you arrange motel or bed and breakfast accommodations for your stay.

JP Fly Fishing Specialties is a fly fishing shop for those who are just beginning and for those with great experience. We offer a great variety of fly tying materials and tools. All our flies are hand tied by Jim at our shop. Jim is an award winning master fly tyer with over forty years of experience. For the last twelve years he has also been building custom bamboo rods. This has become a large part of our business along with rod repairs and restoration. We also build graphite and fiberglass rods.

The shop offers a wide selection of custom flies, Leather fly wallets and bottle wallets, wooden fly boxes w/two flies. Hand built nets in several lengths. A variety of unique gifts items. All of these items are built by Jim and Teresa in our shop.

 

Rowing Instruction

 

One-Day Rowing Instructional

 

Join us for a day of intensive instruction – normally covering 15-20 miles of river. Starting in gentle, moving water,  we progress to reading and scouting rapids, defensive boating, river dynamics, using eddies, ferrying techniques, and river safety. Our goal is to make anglers into safe boaters –people who know their abilities, know their limits, and who have the proper foundation so they can continue to improve their skills on their own. Section of river based on appraised skill level.
1 Person: $200, 2 People: $300.

Five-day Intensive School
The goals of this introductory course are to impart a thorough understanding of river dynamics, reading water, and defensive boating. The course is supervised by senior Raft N Row rafting guides
